Glasgow Botanic Gardens Underground Station – Billy Campbell Video

Why this video hasn’t even got 1000 views is completely beyond me, this is certainly one of the best exploring videos I’ve seen on YouTube. This was done before we visited the botanic gardens back in March last year. I think it captures the station perfectly. Unfortunately it looks like Billy never went to many places exploring (or hasn’t shared many of his videos) but I would definitely like to see some more of his brilliant work. You can see […]

Glenfarg Railway Tunnels Video – July 2011

We love a good railway tunnel, planning to go to Glenfarg after going through the tunnels at the botanic gardens in Glasgow really whet the appetite for more. The Glenfarg railway tunnels were part of the Perth to Kinross line, due to the terrain the North British Railway had to construct two tunnels with 4 miles of each other. The line was closed on the 15th June 1964 as part of the Beeching cuts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenfarg You can see the video […]

Dunmore House – Guest Article

Ray Statter visited Dunmore House and shared his great video on our facebook page. In 1820-22 the 5th Earl of Dunmore commissioned the architect William Wilkins to build Dunmore Park, a magnificent mansion very similar to Dalmeny House completed a few years previously. It was occupied by the family until their departure in 1911 and remained as a private home until 1961. After a short spell as a girls school from then until 1964 it was abandoned. Although substantial parts […]

Cathkin Park football stadium (Home of Third Lanark) Video – May 2011

Another old video we done last year, the park formerly contained a football stadium, which had played host to organised football since 1884. It was originally known as Hampden Park (the second by that name) and was owned by Queen’s Park. When Queen’s Park moved to the third (and current) Hampden Park, they sold the ground to Third Lanark, who renamed it New Cathkin Park. More information can be viewed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathkin_Park The park is currently undergoing a push for […]

Kelvingrove Park Bandstand Video – January 2012

Kelvingrove Park bandstand has hosted many bands and groups over the years, sitting next to Glasgow University it is in a prime position for students. The bandstand dates from around 1924 -25 and it was used all the way up until the mid 1990’s. I actually wanted to include a short clip of the bandstand from the 20’s but was quoted a fee that there’s no way I could justify which was a shame as it looked incredible. Fortunately other […]

Arrochar Torpedo Testing Station Video – May 2011

Back in May 2011, we visited the torpedo testing station in Arrochar. The place has had a colourful history, in 1915 a spy Augusto Alfredo Roggen was caught and hanged at the tower of London for taking photographs here. Here is an old map of the site, where sadly several of the buildings have since been demolished: “Test firing was carried out from submarines, from torpedo tubes built beneath the pier of the test facility, or from a modified vessel, […]
