Air Raid Shelter Urbex Inverclyde – Guest Article

Urbex Inverclyde e-mailed us with an explore of an Air Raid Shelter, the Shelter itself was built by the Birkmyre family in preperation for WW2 (they owned the nearby gourock ropeworks factory which has now been developed into flats) it was built for the employees and their family memebers and could hold more than 1000 people, on the 2 nights of bombing there was thousands of local people trying to get into the shelters for protection, this caused scenes of mayhem and panic at the time of the Raids.
